With over a dozen years of experience, Attorney Ira Piltz represents a broad spectrum of U.S. and foreign clients on a wide range of complex legal matters. Ira is widely sought for his expertise in all forms of real estate transactions, estate planning, and civil litigation. Ira is also a sought after legal and corporate advisor to many well-known closely-held corporations throughout Illinois and the United States.

Ira’s experiences in real estate include having served as lead counsel to a large corporate concern seeking zoning variances for the renovation of a major state owned property, the purchase and sale of millions of dollars in real estate and the planning and execution of multi-phased domestic and international real estate sales and leases. Ira is also known for his experience in representing property managers and presently represents several large Chicago area based companies with large portfolios.

Ira is a sought after speaker who lectures on issues relating to the connection between title and probate in Illinois, as well issues of real estate law. Ira lectures to other attorneys, real estate agents and legal professions and has spoken throughout Illinois.

Ira has also taught American law overseas to foreign legal professionals, most notably in India and Israel.

Ira served as the 2005–2006 American Bar Association Vice-Chair (YLD) for the Trusts, Estates and Real Estate Division, participating in efforts to educate the legal community about the complexities of real estate and estate planning work.

Ira presently represents several corporations listed annually as top performing companies by Crain’s Chicago Business. Previously, Ira served as General Counsel and Director of Legal Services for an international outsourcing and consulting company, managing attorneys and legal affairs on three continents. Ira has also represented some of the largest insurance and finance companies in Illinois.

Ira is also a successful litigator, having represented clients in complex cases before various courts throughout the State of Illinois as well as the 7th Circuit. Successful representations have included corporations, property owners, non-profit organizations and individuals seeking legal protection in court.

In addition to these representations for his clients, Ira is also known for his work as an advocate for the Chicago Jewish Community.

In 2004, Ira successfully vindicated the rights of observant religious women in Illinois, allowing them to obtain State IDs with their hair covered. This case led to a change in Illinois State Law and has been cited as a precedent in other leading civil rights cases throughout the United States.

In 2012, Ira tried a case that allowed a pro-se Jewish teen to attend the religious high school of his choice; a decision issued in the face of mounting pressure from an opposing parent in spite of the child’s well-founded and well documented ability and desire to succeed.

At present, Ira provides pro-bono legal services for several non-profit organizations and for their clientele.

Additionally, Ira is a published author with many of his pieces on international law, commercial law and the law of the Internet appearing in numerous online publications.

Ira holds a B.A. from Yeshiva University and a J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law. Ira is admitted before the State of Illinois Supreme Court (Illinois Bar) and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois (General and Trial Bar). He holds memberships with the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and the Decalogue Society of Jewish Lawyers and serves on several Boards.
